Less is More
Less Stress = More Energy + more Calm + more Happiness
Some days just NEED chocolate. And guess what? There's no need to feel guilty at all for indulging in it.
Chocolate is not only a gift from the gods, but it is really good for you! Body mind and soul!
Nutritionally, good, dark chocolate is chock full of Antioxidants. And antioxidants keep us healthy and young. They fight off the stuff that ages our skin, our organs, and our brains.
What is "good" chocolate? An easy way to find the good stuff is to go to a health food store (it's so nice to have places that pre-screen your choices so you can choose wisely AND easily). I love Chocolove. I also love Dark chocolate covered almonds* that you can usually find in bulk (aka cheaper). Almonds are also really good for you for lots of reasons including that they have high levels of Vitamin E -an Antioxidant!
Chocolate boasts another healthy, happy component, Caffeine.
Studies show that caffeine can reduce the risk of several types of cancer, including skin cancer, and may also help to boost long-term memory. There is also evidence that caffeine may protect against Type 2 Diabetes, Parkinson's Disease, cardiovascular disease and stroke - all of these being practically epidemic in the US,
As you may have noticed yourself, caffeine can be addictive. And like so many addictive substances, the effects and 'proper dosages' vary from person to person.
Blood pressure decreases, inflammation and weight potentially decreases, and there is now evidence that happiness can alter your genes! These epigenetic signals also create better antiviral and antibody responses.
In aging populations, enjoyment of life seems to improve physical and mental mobility and lowers the risk of disabilities associated with aging.
Having positive emotions- being happy and calm - play a role in immune function. One study found that when happy people are exposed to cold and flu viruses, they're less likely to get sick and if they do actually pick up the cold, they have fewer symptoms.
In summary, Chocolate Induced Happiness IS Healthy! If you love chocolate and eating it brings you joy, then enjoy it!
Your happiness along with the healthy components of a high quality dark chocolate will improve your health and make you less susceptible to everyday stressors.
As if that weren't enough:
